The intent of this unit is to enhance the life skills of the students.
By teaching the students to use the newspaper as part of a daily routine the students will: develop a pleasurable pastime, gain new information, and use the newspaper as a source of reference. Some suggestions for activities would be; have a group of students create their own newspaper, illustrate a story, write an advertisement for the classifieds, make recipes, supervised shopping trips, or visit your local newspaper. This program was developed to assist students who demonstrate limited communication skills. The activities will aid the teacher in promoting community awareness and life skills.
