About the Novel:
Beyond the Bright Sea is a historical-fiction story that investigates the concept of identity and family. Crow is a 12-year-old girl living with a solitary man named Osh. She was discovered by him as a baby, when the boat she was abandoned in washed up on his shore. For years, the townspeople believed Crow came from the nearby Penikese Island, once home to a leper colony. Because of this, she was treated as one. Regardless of this isolation, Crow never felt lonely. She had Osh and their neighbor Miss Maggie. But one thing bothered Crow. She wanted to know where she came from and who her family was. When a mysterious light pops up on the abandoned Penikese Island, Crow becomes determined to solve the mystery of her identity, once and for all. Her investigation leads to many answers and even more questions; but one thing is for sure, by the end of it, Crow will know who she is and who her real family is.
