About the Novel:
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH ventures into the lives of animals living on a farm. Mrs. Frisby is a mouse with a problem. Her son is ill. Luckily, he will recover. However, it’s important he is not moved while he gets better. The problem is, moving day is coming. This is when Mrs. Frisby and her children must leave their winter home before the farmer plows the field for the new crop. Mrs. Frisby goes to see the wise owl for advice. She’s told to ask the rats for help. Mrs. Frisby has seen the rats around the farm. They seem mysterious and fearless—always performing strange tasks while somehow avoiding the cat who patrols the area. Out of desperation, Mrs. Frisby seeks their help. She’s surprised to learn how advanced they are and their connection with her late husband. She’s pleased to learn that they will help her. Mrs. Frisby learns a great deal about her husband’s past and what she’s capable of.
