About the Novel:
Walk Two Moons forces readers to imagine life from another person’s perspective. Thirteen-year-old Salamanca “Sal” Tree Hiddle travels across the United States with her lively grandparents to visit her mother in Idaho. Along the way, Sal tells them about her friend Phoebe Winterbottom, whose ordinary life is shaken when a strange man appears and Phoebe’s mother suddenly disappears. As Sal shares Phoebe’s story, she slowly reveals the truth about her own mother’s absence and the pain she carries. Through memories, humor and discovery, Sal learns about love, grief and empathy, finally understanding the meaning of “walking two moons in someone else’s moccasins.”
