About the Novel:
The Jungle Book compiles a series of short stories depicting life in the jungles of India. Most of the stories surround the book’s protagonist—Mowgli. Orphaned as a baby, Mowgli is taken in by a wolf pack and raised to be one of their own. He is taught by Baloo, the brown bear, of the ways of the jungle. He is protected by Bagheera, the black panther, who finds this task difficult. When the tiger Shere Khan returns to the jungle, he demands the man cub be given to him, as it was he who killed Mowgli’s parents. Mowgli then must find a way to save himself from the murderous tiger and discover where he truly belongs—jungle or man village. The remainder of the book is made up of other tales depicting the struggles surrounding animals coexisting with people.
