About the Novel:
Hello, Universe brings together four very different kids, whose unique voices weave together a story about fate. Virgil has the nickname of “Turtle” because he is shy and quiet. He spends his time with his best friend—a guinea pig named Gulliver. He also frequently seeks the advice of the local kid psychic, Kaori. On his most recent visit, Virgil asks for advice about a girl he likes at school. He won’t reveal to Kaori who it is, but is given a task to perform. Kaori believes in fate, destiny and signs from the universe. The girl is Valencia. She is smart, kind and loves nature. She is also deaf, and finds herself frequently lonely and plagued with dreams. Virgil is also tormented by Chet, the school bully. Chet is also not a fan of Valencia. One day, fate intervenes to bring these four characters together when Virgil goes missing in the woods. Kaori and Valencia team up to find him, while Chet gets in the way. Virgil is able to overcome his shyness and finally stand up to the bully.
