About the Novel:
Son explores the powerful connection between a mother and her child. Claire lives in a community where each citizen is assigned a specific job. For her, she was assigned Birthmother. This means she is responsible for giving birth to new citizens. Her job does not include raising these children. Instead, these children are assigned to couples in the community when they reach 1 year old. This separation between mother and child is just part of the job. However, something different happens to Claire. She has trouble during her delivery, which results in a troubled baby boy and Claire being reassigned to a new job. Her uncharacteristic predicament has left Claire different than her peers. She feels things, particularly for the little boy that was taken from her. This leads to Claire’s journey to find her son and reunite with him.
