About the Novel:
Ella Enchanted explores how true freedom comes from finding the courage to make your own choices. Ella of Frell is given the magical “gift” of obedience by the fairy Lucinda as a baby. The gift becomes a curse because Ella must obey any direct command she receives. After her mother dies, Ella’s father remarries. Her cruel stepsisters—Hattie and Olive—discover her secret and force her to serve them. As Ella faces dangerous adventures and struggles to hide her curse, she develops a close friendship with Prince Char. When she realizes her obedience could endanger Char and the kingdom, Ella finds the courage to resist a command for the first time. By breaking the curse herself, she gains her freedom and begins a new life with Char based on love, independence, and choice.
