The words in this combined resource are called “sight words” because students need to know them on sight.
Sounding them out doesn’t always work. Students will see them a lot in their reading. Students will also use them a lot in their writing. The goal is for students to read the words right away and to spell them without mistakes.
Sight Word Spellers Set Big Book combines the two resources in this series: Sight Word Spellers Book 1 and Sight World Spellers Book 2. This combined resource helps young students learn to spell the highest frequency words in the English language. Book 1 focuses on the top 100 words on the Dolch list. Book 2 focuses on the next 120 words. Many of these words do not follow regular phonics patterns. Instead, students must memorize the words through frequent exposure.
