This book is intended for children at the preschool and kindergarten levels.

Character is a personal quality that helps a person get along with others and become a productive citizen. Children acquire good character by observation and imitation of parents, relatives, and friends, as well as through formal instruction at school, in religious settings, and in other groups. Social Skills Simplified: Being the Best Me, Pre K-K, offers children an opportunity to learn and practice some very essential skills of good character. These skills help children develop a sense of respect and responsibility toward others. In the process, they build self-esteem and feel confident in social situations. This practice book offers children the opportunity to work individually and at their own pace. A skill is presented, and then followed by exercises allowing children to practice immediately what they have learned. An Answer Page with appropriate responses to the activities is provided at the back of this book. After students complete a page, review the answers with them to provide immediate feedback. Children should be able to work through the activities with little adult supervision. The extensive use of pictures makes it easy for children to understand the content; plus, children can choose to color in these pictures as an extension activity. However, the youngest students may need to have an adult read the text with them. To be most effective, it’s important that an adult discuss and reinforce the character-building skills. The skills featured in this book fall into three categories: respect and responsibility, citizenship, manners.
